It were a right pain waiting for the train

With satchels on our backs

But then it came down tracks

And us boys jumped for joy.

A day off school to go off to Blackpool.

We clicked and we clacked

As we lurched down the tracks

And we laughed and we joked

While Uncle Tom and Dad smoked.

(Because tha knows it were allowed back then)

Then at last we saw Blackpool tower.

Oh the power.

And the surf and the sand oh  it were grand.

Mam..Mam can we have a ride on the tram

Mam said aye if you’re good.

Which we were

Well as good as any young boys could.

And off we went down Golden mile

You should have seen us young lads smile.

Sun kissed we missed the passing of day

Only finding it later to hear Mam say

It’s time for train

Time to go home to Lancaster again.

And on way home we fell asleep

Waking up later to keep the appointment with bed.

With Blackpool in our head

And a bit of sand in our hair.

We went skipping into dreams

without so much as a care.
