The Egyptian plover was sat in the sun

Eating the leeches off a crocodiles tongue.

Then as he flew off he opened his lips and spat out the pips.

The croc swam off to somewhere midstream

And settled himself down to sleep and to dream.

Meanwhile gnu’s doing what gnu’s usually do

Arrived at the stream with a hullabaloo.

The croc woke from his dream and in his eyes was a gleam

He realised that the gnu’s needed to cross

And what was his gain would be the gnu’s loss.

As the gnu’s splashed the crocodile dashed

And took one or two gnu’s totally deaf to their cries

Down to the deep to meet their demise.

So if gnu’s make a splash

And crocs start to dash

There is only ever one winner

And the loser is dinner.

Take a rest, John, I can’t keep up :-). This is very amusing and rather Kiplingesque – almost worthy of a place in the Just So Stories.
